Ute Trail Guide Service is located in Salida, Colorado. The Everett Land and Cattle ranch took root in the valley in the 1880’s. Now V Bar X Ranch, the cattle and outfitting businesses are run by 4th, 5th, and 6th generation family members.
Today, long time friends and family make up the group of professional guides at “cow camp” who serve our clients on elk and deer hunts throughout the ranch’s high desert landscape. The outfitting service utilizes 70,000 acres of prime hunting habitat that ranges in elevation from 8,000 to 11,000 feet.
Ute Trail Guide Service is a member, in good standing, of the Colorado Outfitters Association.
Seasons and Draw
Our team has been guiding big game hunts since the late 1960’s. Elk and mule deer hunts take place in Game Management unit 57. This area is primarily by draw. Opportunities for vouchers are available. Click “learn more” for deadlines, season dates, and draw/preference point statistics.
Hunt Services and Rates
Hunts take place in the Ute Trail area, 18 miles northeast of Salida, Colorado. Our rustic cabins at "cow camp" are surrounded by 10,000 acres of private ranch property, with very little pressure from other hunters. One guide is provided for each hunter unless other arrangements are made prior to the hunt. Our guides, camp cook, and clients all enjoy the “right at home” feel of hunting season in the rocky mountains.
